The idea is basically that you do one of these each day for a month. While I consider myself waaay to lazy to do this in a month (particularly not during NaNoWriMo) this is exactly the type of thing I want to do here. And I want people to talk about. Please, even if you're here by a fluke of the inter-stream, consider yourself to make a comment on each one, on my response to each one, on each other's response... You get the idea.

So, in the spirit of that, here is my first one:

Day one: The show that should never have been cancelled.

The first answer, the most obvious one, the one that everyone expects from a geek is Firefly of course. But I don’t agree there. Actually, I think the only reason everyone falls at the feet of Firefly is the very fact it was cancelled so early. They see a kinda of vauge unfulfilled Whedonite promise, which I don’t.

So not Firefly. What then? Something like The West Wing or Stargate: SG-1 really had run it’s course when it ended. Even Stargate: Atlantis, which I liked right up until the last sweeping panning shot, felt like it came to a gradual and dignified end. I don’t think those shows were even properly cancelled, they stopped making them of their own volition.

I guess a show like Lie To Me doesn’t count, even though I know it will be cancelled soon and will certainly regret that it was. I can’t pre-emptively pick shows, I think.

The Whole Truth had a lot of promise, and I’m certainly sorry to see that go. I didn’t really have time to get attached though.

The more I think about it, the more I think it just must be a quirky little show that was adapted from a book series: The Dresden Files.

The Dresden Files, a half police-procedural half TV show about a WIZARD who SOLVES CRIME. MAGIC CRIME. That right there says something important about this show. Namely that it’s about a WIZARD solving CRIMES. The acting was good, even if some people seemed a little wooden (Terrance Mann was very good in it, and the lead actor who’s name escapes me now was also pretty good). I think when it comes to this question it’s a little less about the show that was really good when it got cancelled and a little more about the potential that you see going to waste. The Dresden Files had potential. A rice source history that could be drawn on at any time, interesting premises that are far from the normal murder-a-week fare you get on television now, and a chance to see a WIZARD solve WIZARD CRIMES.

I admit a couple of episodes really didn’t stand up too well, but the show made internal sense, the magic was well handled (Probably because it was adapted from a book series), and there were some really funny moments as well. I won’t spoil the ending for anyone that might want to take a look (hint hint), but it held some pretty strong emotion for characters I had only eight episodes to get to know.
So that’s my pick, the show I wish hadn’t been cancelled. A quirky little show called The Dresden Files.
Which, I don’t know if I have mentioned, is about a WIZARD WHO SOLVES CRIMES.

What about you?

(Note to self, you can't address your audience if you don't have one. Go find one.)

The beginning.

Hi.
I'm Kas.
It's nice to pseudo-meet you.
This blog (created despite my many morally-superior witticisms made at the expense of blogs and those who serve them) if for me to talk about the things I like. Stories. TV shows, I suspect will take up most of the posts, but also books, movies, comics, etc. I really hope a few people read this, because quite aside from my ego needing a good few boosts before I can harness it to fly from place to place, the only thing I like more than talking about these things is having a conversation about them.

I really hope there aren't a hundred of these blogs out there.

In retrospect I should have check that before I made this one.

Anyway, I like and watch a lot of TV shows, so if you like even a handful I'd keep an eye out, because at some point I'll probably talk about it.

Thanks for reading even a tiny bit
